Taxis and cars are available in Krabi

Arrival to Khao Lak

The popular vacation region of the Germans "Khao Lak" is about 800 km south of Bangkok. You can arrive by plane, bus, taxi or a rented car. You will find everything explained in detail below:

By bus

It is cheaper from Phuket Airport if, for example, you can take a motorcycle taxi the 5 km to the main road and get on a public bus towards Takua Pa, Ranong or Surat Thani. This stops everywhere in Khao Lak where you want to get off. Cost point for an Airconbus around 100 baht. These buses all start at the bus station in Phuket Town.

There is also a public bus connection between Krabi and Khao Lak. This trip takes longer and costs around 140 baht.

You can also take a public bus from Bangkok to KhaoLak. These depart from the southern terminal. When booking the tickets, you should already specify your final destination. About 800 km further and 11-13 hours later you first reach Takua Pa. From there it's just under 30 km to your destination. There are also private bus tour operators everywhere in the tourist centers. Here it is worthwhile to compare the prices and departure times.

By plane

Many domestic and international flights land at the airport in Phuket every day. This is the easiest and fastest way to get to Khao Lak. From there it goes the remaining 80 km by taxi directly to Khao Lak. You can also buy a shuttle bus service in the arrival hall at the airport. The price depends on the number of people and the beach section you want to go to.

Many hotels in Khao Lak also offer a pick-up service from / to Phuket Airport. This can be requested when booking the hotel. Krabi also has a domestic / international airport, and taxis and buses are available for onward travel here as well. The distance is about 140 km which takes a 1-3 hour drive.

With the taxi

From Phuket Airport you can get a taxi for around 1,500 Baht. From Krabi you have to expect a taxi price of around 2,500 baht. In any case, you need some negotiating skills.

Arriving by train

There is no train station here. If you still want to experience a train journey, you can take the train to Surat Thani on the east coast and then travel the remaining 200 km in a bus. This is much more cumbersome and time-consuming, but you can see a lot more of the country and its people.

Coming from Bangkok it is advisable to book a night train with sleeping compartments. This can be done directly at Bangkok's main train station, Hua Lamphong. It is best to buy the tickets a few days in advance. Arrival in Surat Thani is ideally in the early morning to get a direct connection bus to Khao Lak. Conversely, a return trip to Bangkok is of course also possible.

With your own car

There are car rental stations at all airports in Thailand and in most tourist places. You can either rent your dream car from Germany or, depending on availability, directly on site. It is important to choose a renowned car rental company in order to get an international standard in terms of insurance protection.

In any case, it is advisable to book in advance because you can and should order a GPS at the same time. You have an English language setting, but not German. Now it is no longer a problem to navigate safely through Bangkok's traffic and street chaos and to arrive directly at the desired location or hotel at any point in Thailand. Attention left-hand traffic!

Conclusion: Probably the best way to get there is by bus or by plane to Krabi or Phuket and further transport by bus or taxi directly to the hotel.
