What Are Dermatologist Tips For Treating Acne
Acne problems are manageable
Acne is one of the most common skin diseases, but acne is not always a problem. Usually this problem only appears for a short time in life - often in young people. If acne does not set in until after puberty, its treatment is often tedious.
Acne is the most common skin disease. Almost everyone has suffered from it - during puberty almost everyone is more or less affected. However, boys are usually stronger than girls. It has recently been observed that the number of adults suffering from acne is increasing.
Acne is a pathological change in the sebum glands, which are mainly found on the face, chest and back. Apart from a few people in whom acne is inherited, the increased secretion of sex hormones causes an increased production of sebum. This fatty sebum clogs the gland ducts (pores) and an open blackhead (comedo) forms. This becomes visible to the outside as a black point.
The accumulated gland secretion is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Therefore, inflammation can easily develop in the blocked sebum gland and lead to purulent pimples. At the same time, the dead cells keratinize at the pore exit. This can lead to the formation of a closed blackhead. Special germs (Propionibacterium acnes) settle in the closed sebum channel and start the inflammatory process that leads to pimples.
However, acne can also be triggered by external factors. These include environmental influences (climate), occupational handling of oils, fats or chlorinated hydrocarbons, "wrong" cosmetics or internally or externally applied drugs. Chloracne, tar acne and steroid acne are known. The so-called Mallorca acne is attributed to the interaction of sunlight with the emulsifiers in sunscreens or skin care products.
Pimples and blackheads aren't just a cosmetic problem. They often have an enormous impact on the psyche. The dermatologist should therefore be consulted at an early stage in the event of skin problems. He can either suggest a suitable plan for preventive measures and skin care at an early stage or initiate effective treatment. This is also useful because severe acne can lead to scarring.
The most important forms of acne are acne vulgaris, which include acne comedonica and acne papulopustulosa. If there are also deep, inflammatory nodules, it is called acne conglobata. To treat them, the dermatologist can choose from a variety of different modern options and adapt them to individual needs. However, treatment is only successful if the suggestions are followed and you have confidence in your doctor. Above all, every acne treatment takes time!
The type and intensity of acne determine the course of therapy. The degree of severity first decides whether a purely external treatment or the administration of tablets or capsules makes sense. Externally, in addition to the cosmetic options, mainly active ingredients for peeling the skin and antibiotics are used. As substances that work from within, antibiotics, isotretinoin and hormones are mainly prescribed for acne therapy.
It is not possible to say exactly how long acne will last. In mild forms, if left untreated, it can stop around the age of twenty-fifth. Most acne disappears by the beginning of 30 at the latest, but you don't have to wait so long for the acne to stop by itself. Professional and regular treatment can significantly reduce the severity of acne and prevent scarring. Acne is a serious skin condition. But with the help of your dermatologist, it can be mastered well.
A professional removal of comedones and emptying of pimples (pustules) can significantly improve the clinical picture of acne. Peeling therapy dissolves horny droplets in the sebum duct. Comedones are removed and their formation is prevented. The following active ingredients are suitable for peeling treatment: Vitamin A acid loosens the skin and reduces the sticking together of the horny cells. Closed comedones open and shed their horn plug. The use of benzoyl peroxide loosens the horn plug and reduces the size of the sebum glands. In addition to its comdolytic effect, it also has a germicidal (antimicrobial) and reducing (antiseborrheic) effect. Azelaic acid has a peeling and anti-seborrheic effect. It also has an antibacterial effect. Isotretinoin has effects similar to vitamin A acid, but is said to be less irritating to the skin. Adapalen is a substance similar to vitamin A acid with additional anti-inflammatory properties. In the external antibiotic treatment, erythromycin is in the foreground. It has an anti-inflammatory and bacteriostatic effect against germs. In severe forms of papulopustular acne and acne conglobata, antibiotics should also be used internally. The active ingredient tetracycline has particularly proven itself. Isotretinoin can also be used internally to treat severe forms of acne. Treatment with homons is also possible.
Skin cleansing and care
Dark blackheads are not polluted pores. The coloring is caused by the skin pigment melanin. Washing therefore has no effect on the actual acne. As a result, the skin fat is only removed superficially. The accumulation of secretions and the inflammation remain unaffected. Even so, cleaning is important. It should be done with the help of mild syndets. Various washing suspensions with the active ingredient benzyl peroxide are available in the pharmacy. This also unfolds its effect within the sebum gland. So you can do something against acne while cleaning.
Under no circumstances should you push or squeeze your blackheads and pimples. Not only can this cause ugly skin discoloration and scars. Rather, pathogens can spread more easily in the damaged skin and make acne worse. If you want to get rid of blackheads, you should have a professional comedone cleanse carried out by a beautician.
