What is a JRE installer

The Java runtime (abbreviated to "jre") is a so-called "runtime library" that is required by "JAXID" programs, but also by many other products from other manufacturers, to operate the software.

The Java runtime is, so to speak, an adapter that lies between the operating system and the Java program and enables it to run independently of the operating system used. This adapter (jre) is usually provided free of charge by the system manufacturer or by third parties for all important operating systems.

The Java Runtime only needs to be installed once. The point "Installation of the Java Runtime" is only important if it is not yet on your system or not in the latest version.

If you have already installed a Java Runtime, you can determine the version by entering the following command in a console (with Windows = command prompt):

If you have Java on your system, you will get something like the following message:

To execute "JAXID" programs, at least the Version 6 or 1.6 the Java Runtime (JRE) required. You can find information about the Java runtime and currently available versions for the various operating systems, among other things. on "www.java.com".

Java 6 or Java 1.6 ?! Both are the same! Unfortunately there are 2 versions of Java! One is the "Marketing" version (Java 6, 7, 8, etc.) and the other is the "Technical" version (Java 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, etc.). In the case of the above The example in the console means that version "1.7.0_79" means that it is technical version 1.7 and therefore Java 7.

For the execution of the JAXID software, however, Java 6 or higher is sufficient, i.e. the technical version 1.6 or higher

Java JRE or Java JDK ?! JRE stands for "Java Runtime Edition" and is required for the execution of Java programs. JDK stands for "Java Development Kit" and is required for the development of Java programs. In the JDK, the JRE i. d. Usually included.

The JRE is sufficient for the execution of JAXID programs, but of course they also run with a JDK.

If you received our software on a CD, you will find the Java runtime for the most important systems on this CD in the subdirectory "/ java / [your system] /".

Some operating systems already contain a Java runtime. However, in many cases this is no longer up-to-date and should be replaced by a more recent version. Therefore, please inquire regularly about more current versions at "www.java.com" for Windows, Apple OSX, Linux and Solaris.

In general, please read the help that is included with the installation program of the respective Java runtime and install it according to the manufacturer's instructions.

In the following, the installation of the Java Runtime under Windows, on behalf of other systems, is explained in detail:

Since various files have to be copied into the system directory and entries written in the registry during the installation of the Java Runtime, the installation can only be carried out with the "Administrator" user account be performed. Please log into your system accordingly prior to installation.

You should also quit all other running programs before starting the installation. If the "Welcome" dialog of the installation program described below does not appear or only appears after an "eternity", this is mostly due to a virus scanner running in the background.
