Stockholmia 2019

The Royal Philatelic Society London

The Royal Philatelic Society London (RPSL) is the oldest philatelic association in the world and was founded in 1869 as The Philatelic Society, London. Permission to use the spelling “Royal” was granted in 1906 by His Majesty King Edward VII. Today the Society is still honored to be under the auspices of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The RPSL is celebrating its 150th birthday in 2019. As part of this anniversary, an official international exhibition will be held in Stockholm under the title “STOCKHOLMIA 2019 - The International Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Royal Philatelic Society London”.

This exhibition will be a further milestone in recognizing the international reach of the Society and will take place from May 29th to June 2nd. The exhibition includes 2000 frames (exhibited philatelic competition classes and open class), and is open to all RPSL members worldwide. A pre-selection will not be necessary as all RPSL members are automatically qualified.

Count Gustaf Douglas

The exhibition received a substantial financial contribution from Count Gustaf Douglas FRPSL. Count Gustaf Douglas is currently the leading philatelist in Sweden. In 2013 he became known to the international public when he presented the “Tree-Skilling Banco”, one of the rarest postage stamps in the world, as part of his “Golden Collection of Swedish Philately”. Count Gustaf Douglas will be the philatelic patron of the exhibition.

He says …

“October 31, 2013, the day I made my extensive exhibition available to Fellows and Members of the Royal Philatelic Society London, was the greatest day of my 50-year philatelic life. The exhibition was later honored with the "Tilleard Medal" from the Society. My commitment to Stockholmia is my way of thanking the Royal for this most important day in my philatelic life. "
