When did Layne Staley die

Alice In Chains: Singer Layne Staley has died

Alice In Chains singer Layne Staley was found dead in his Seattle apartment late Friday afternoon. He presumably died of a drug overdose. Staley was 34 years old.

Seattle (mis) - According to the police report, a caller asked local officials late Friday afternoon to inquire about Layne Staley's well-being. Rumor has it that the caller was a friend Staley hadn't seen in weeks. Police officers found the singer lying dead on a sofa. He is said not to have been alive for several days. His body could only be identified by an autopsy the following day.

Drug overdose is not excluded as a cause of death. Layne Staley's heroin addiction dominated the headlines for years. When Alice In Chains became known around the world ten years ago with the album "Dirt", Staley's gloomy and revealing lyrics first raised the suspicion that the singer was experimenting with the deadly drug. In the following years, the band's negative attitude towards tours ensured that the rumors never broke off.

A joint appearance for MTV's famous "Unplugged" series became the last concert of the alternative heroes in 1996. Staley's drug addiction has since been blamed for the band's split. While guitarist Jerry Cantrell pursued a solo career, Staley largely withdrew. Alice In Chains are considered to be the pioneers of numerous rock bands such as Puddle Of Mudd, Godsmack or Staind.
