How to iron jeans How
Ironing jeans - this is how it works
Ironing jeans - yes or no?
Is it necessary to iron jeans or not? Opinions differ on this. If you shake the pants vigorously and fold them up immediately after washing, they are actually almost crease-free. The result is even better if you use a tumble dryer.
The other side argues in favor of ironing that it makes the fabric smoother and more comfortable to wear. Of course, perfectly ironed trousers always look well-groomed.
Others, on the other hand, only straighten the lower part of the pants, as the thighs are most likely to straighten themselves when worn.
So in the end, you have to decide for yourself whether it is worth the time and effort to iron the jeans.
Repairing jeans with iron-on patches
Everyone knows it: sooner or later, jeans will wear through in one place. If you do not take care of the hole early on, it will continue to tear out until the jeans are no longer usable at some point. One method of repairing jeans is, of course, to go to the tailor, if you cannot use the sewing machine yourself.
However, iron-on patches are much simpler options. These have a coating on one side that dissolves due to the heat and bonds firmly to the fabric. You just put it on the hole and iron on the patch.
Personal taste decides whether it has to be from the left or the right. There are quite simple patches without a pattern or the like that you can inconspicuously iron on from the left if you want the hole no longer to be seen later. Conversely, there are eye-catching motifs to design the pants individually from the outside. This is not only a popular option for children to extend the life of the trousers.
How do you iron jeans properly?
If you decide to iron your jeans, pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions. On the care label you can see whether you are allowed to iron the jeans and which temperature is recommended.
Most jeans are made of pure cotton and are therefore comparatively insensitive to temperature. Then you can usually iron them on level 3 at the highest temperature. However, if the fabric contains an elastic component, as is the case with stretch jeans, then a slightly lower temperature and level 2 is recommended. If you are unsure, it is better to start with a lower level to avoid damaging the fabric takes.
Left or Right?
Most fabrics are better ironed inside out. This prevents shiny areas or the edges of the ironing from becoming visible on the trousers, or they can no longer be seen when you have turned the trousers inside out after ironing.
Moisten before ironing
The sturdy denim is best smoothed out when it is not yet completely dry. To do this, simply take the pants off the clothesline or the dryer a little early.
If the trousers are already dry, a steam iron is suitable to effortlessly smooth out the heavy fabric. If you don't have one at hand, it is sufficient to moisten the trousers with water from a spray bottle before ironing.
Iron jeans wrinkle-free
When ironing, dedicate yourself to one leg first, then the other. Make sure that the seams are as parallel as possible and straighten the fabric when ironing if necessary. You fold up the trouser pockets so that the seams do not show through the fabric when ironing over them.
This works best on a smooth surface like an ironing board. If you don't have one at hand, look for an alternative that is as smooth as a table or the floor. Place a special ironing blanket or ironing cloth between the mat and the jeans. An alternative is a towel - the main thing is that the pad is reasonably soft.
