Does Harvard accept the International Baccalaureate (IB)? What is the minimum number of points accepted?
Harvard University is one of the most prestigious private universities in America with over 300 years of history. The Ivy League Institute is one of the most competitive in the US and the world. While there are no officially published cut-off points for Ivy League schools, there is general feedback and academic reviews on how IB points fare in the Harvard enrollment process.
The short answer is that Harvard takes IB scores to consider. In fact, it is believed that a high IB Diploma (DP) score correlates well with success in applying to Harvard. Non-IB applicants have a 5.1% chance of enrollment compared to 12.2% for IB DP mounts. However, it is important for IB students must achieve at least 38 points and about if they want to go to an Ivy League school.
Additionally, competitive universities like Harvard emphasize the higher level (HL) IB subjects. Candidates should aim for a 6 or 7 for each HL subject. IB students are expected to take at least 3 HL subjects during their program in which they learn in-depth elements on a topic.
Selective schools like Harvard typically rate the most challenging classes as evidence of a student's determination, confidence, and persistence. For the most part, IB courses offer the best testing ground for academic and non-academic excellence.
IB graduates are preferred by Havard due to the demanding nature of the IB program, which cultivates students in well-rounded individuals. As with all applicants, Havard takes into account the general reputation of the candidate, which may include leadership skills, athletic performance, letters of recommendation (LOR), knowledge theory (TOK), and the results of the extended essay. In addition, an entry is often made up of the scores for certain IB subjects according to the specialization of a degree program.
