I'm eating a watermelon. What's next

Eating the edge of a watermelon: delicious and healthy

If you cut a watermelon open, you will probably leave an edge of about 1 to 2 centimeters towards the skin, as the white flesh is hard and not particularly tasty. However, if you are not a fan of simply throwing food away, you can also eat the edge of the watermelon properly prepared.

  1. The green peel of the watermelon is inedible. However, you can easily remove them with a peeler after you've already cut out the red pulp.
  2. Then dice the edge of the watermelon into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Put the watermelon pieces in a saucepan with a tablespoon of salt and water and boil the whole thing once.
  4. Then pour off the water and fill the rim of the watermelon into a clip-on glass or another mason jar.
  5. Now mix equal parts water and honey in another vessel and add another tablespoon of sugar.
  6. Mix the liquid with sweet spices such as cinnamon and clove or lemon and ginger.
  7. Now pour the liquid over the melon pieces until they are completely covered and seal the jar
  8. Now let the edge of the melon steep in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours. Then the melon pieces are significantly softer and sweeter instead of just the hard remains of the melon.
